My experience in officiating as many as 12 weddings in a month has given me a unique insight into wedding etiquette. Some of the trends today concern me, because it appears that people are not very interested in showing respect to other people in ordinary social situations.

Many wedding vendors, including myself, require payment in advance. The main reason why I require advance payment is that I do not want the wedding marred by having to deal with business.

Yesterday the bride handed me a tip after the wedding ceremony. As an officiant, I do not expect tips. I build all my costs into my fee, and I know the couple is having to put out so much money, that it is unreasonable to expect more money via a tip.

Price and availability may be a great way to choose a rental car, but they should not be top priorities in choosing a clergyman to officiate your wedding. Personality, creative abilities, ceremony flexibility, experience, dependability, integrity, and other factors are really more important.
