Oh my gosh! Not another article on how to choose your wedding photographer please!
We know it’s been done but choosing a good wedding photographer is one of the most important things you can do when planning your wedding. Once the day is over that’s it! All you’ve got left are those photos and videos. And of course hopefully some good memories.
A few tips in choosing the right wedding photographer:
1 ~ Likeable. First and foremost – make sure you are comfortable with them that you like them. Are a person you would like to hang around with for the afternoon on the most important day of your life?
2 ~ References, references, references. They should be more than willing to give you references if they are (i) good, (ii) if they have lots of good experience, (iii) if they’ve been in the business a while. If they have nothing to hide. So don’t be afraid to ask for references.
3 ~ Website presence. Any photographer worth their salt should be able to put up some decent photos on their website. And their website should look pretty darn professional – they are creative photographers, for pete’s sake. Otherwise it means they’re not successful enough to pay for a decent website and if the pictures aren’t good, and believe me they are trying to put up their best, so shy away from shoddy websites.
4 ~ Engagement shoots. A good prelude to what your wedding day will be like. Plus engagement session photos are awesome to have. It’s always great to have pictures of you with your fiancé on the days leading up to your wedding. There is so much excitement in the air and faces are always beaming! Do the engagement session well enough in advance that if you don’t care for the way the pictures came out or the way the photographer dealt with you you can find another photographer for your wedding day. Don’t sign up for a package deal for engagement shoots that contractually obligates you to use them as your wedding photographer.
5 ~ Response time. We have a great photographer in our area who has it done wedding photography and family photos for us several times. We love her work. The problem is she never gets back to us. It takes forever for her to get the pictures to us and she’s very unresponsive. We absolutely love her work but are so tired of dealing with her that we are going to have to find someone else. Too bad for her she’s a great photographer. Just not a professional business person.
Most of all have fun with every aspect of your wedding planning! Best of luck!
