Q: Is there any rule
as to the number of bridesmaids and ushers we can have?
A: There is only one “rule of
thumb”! Ushers have the duty of seating your guests; there should be one
usher for very fifty guests. If this is a first wedding, usually four to
six attendants are chosen for the bride, and at least the same number of
ushers. For a second wedding, usually one or two bridesmaids and the maid
of honor are sufficient, and at least that many ushers. There may be more
ushers than bridesmaids, but there should not be more bridesmaids than
ushers!

Q: I have been asked
by a close friend to be a bridesmaid in her wedding. There is one problem,
I am on a very limited income, and will not be able to buy a new dress and
shoes. Do I just turn her down and tell her why?
A: Do be truthful. Tell her
you cannot realistically afford the expense, even though you would love to
be in the wedding. This will give her time to ask someone else. If you are
really close friends, she may decide her wedding wouldn’t be the same
without you, and discreetly offer to buy the dress herself!

Q: I am having a
maid of honor and a matron of honor in my bridal party. My fiancé doesn’t
want to have 2 best men. During the recessional, who should the best man
walk with or escort? Would it look crazy if my matron of honor walked
alone? Let me know your input. Thanks!
A: During the ceremony the maid
of honor should be by your side. The matron of honor will be joined by her
husband at the reception, so you can assure your fiancé he will not have
to have two best men! During the recessional the best man may escort the
maid of honor on one side of him, and on the other, the matron of honor. Best Regards,
Andi
Q: My youngest son
is getting married in a year and I thought that I would be asked to be his
best man as in my oldest son’s wedding. However, I found out that he is
not going to have me in the wedding. How do I cope? I do not want to put a
damper on this day. A:
First you must realize that it is not common practice for a son to have
his father as his best man! The role of best man may not be what he had in
mind for his father! This is a huge step in his life, maybe he wants you
to do what you do best! Be his father! You should respect his decision,
commend him for his individuality, and show everyone how proud you are to
have raised such a wonderful young man!
Best Regards,
Andi
