Q: I want to have a
chocolate fountain at my reception, but my fiancé thinks it is going to be
too much of a mess, and doesn’t think it is a good idea? How can we have
one and avoid the mess?
A: Chocolate fountains are
not as messy as you think! If you find a reputable chocolate fountain
rental company, they will provide an attendant to take care of things
throughout your reception. Surrounding the fountain there will be some
chocolate drips on the tablecloth. This just goes with territory! (If you
plan to have a special tablecloth on this table, you can purchase an
inexpensive, clear plastic tablecloth for protection.) At one reception, I
saw a bride wearing an apron she hade made to compliment her gown! If you
plan on having a chocolate dipped strawberry or two, this is a great idea!
A chocolate fountain makes a wonderful addition to any reception, so don’t
let a few “drips” get you down!

Q: Our son just got
engaged yesterday to a wonderful woman, who is from out of town. She grew
up approximately 3 hours away from Pittsburgh. The actual wedding and
reception will be in her hometown. I am not sure how many of "our" side
will make the trip there for the actual wedding. What kind of second
reception/party should I, or could I have back here in Pittsburgh? Should
it be as soon as they return from their honeymoon? Should she wear her
dress, even though I don't think our son will again rent another tux for
the day? What kind of place should we have it in? We considered our back
yard, which is quite big and flat and renting covers, but don't want it to
turn into just a barbecue instead of a wedding party. What do you think?
Thank you. A:
It is very nice of you to do this for your son, his new bride,
and all the guests that couldn’t make it to the wedding. Your celebration
should take place two to three weeks after the wedding. Your new
daughter-in-law will probably jump at the chance to wear her wedding gown
again; most brides don’t get the opportunity to wear their gowns twice!
Your backyard sounds great! Don’t shun the barbecue idea, some of the most
relaxed and fun receptions are good old fashioned BBQ’s! If you would
like, a wedding cake would be appropriate, otherwise the reception should
be much like any other party, held to celebrate a special occasion! Have a
great time! Best Regards,
Andi
